So in the end, we bought a lemon of a car with multiple problems, Ray scammed us and by saying he did not have time to fix a car unless you pay for it, verifies that he's trying to save money by selling vehicles that will work just enough to drive off the lot so he can ignore you at that point. Please everyone, tell your families and friends to stay away from this place, they seem so nice at first but they are sharks waiting to steal your money.
I placed a reservation for a Penske truck to pick up at this location. This is my first time using Penske as I usually go with UHaul. I called to see if I could move up the pick up time to the earliest they had available and the lady I spoke to said they couldn’t but that it would be there at my reserved pick up time. I was like ok no big deal. I called to let them know I was running a few mins late and then the guy I spoke to said he doesn’t have the truck for me... huh? He said the system shouldn’t have let me reserve one, however why did your employee tell me it would be ready at 3pm?! If it was never going to be there, why not say there was an error instead of letting me drive there? Can’t recommend using Penske or this location. Very unorganized and unreliable. Apology was not even sincere.
Buying a car is always stressful but so far I have had a pretty good experience with this business. The employees are very polite and have went out of their way to accommodate all my needs and help in any way possible.. Overall great service!!
Luckily the issues with the car were still covered by the dealer under an extended warranty and are being fixed at no cost to me. At the dealer I was treated with respect and not given the run around. Not to say that every used car dealer is like Ray but the treatment was very different. I do not recommend anyone do business with Ray as he takes trade ins or cars out of auctions with issues he does not want to fix. He will just take a car with problems, wash it and hide the issues until you take it off his lot and then you're on you own. Shady and dishonest.
Buying from this lot has been one of the most horrific car buying experiences of my life. At first glance it seems like this is a nice little mom and pop place to buy a vehicle but Ray is a scam artist, he knows exactly what he does and he's good at it.
When I got into the vehicle and drove it, it seemed fine. I had to update the time on the vehicle also because it seemed someone disconnected the battery and forgot to set it. Go figure, on the way home, warnings start to pop up. The sensors were bad on all the tires, a check engine light came on for the catalytic converter (according to auto zone), and then the front left headlight went out. This was in a matter of two days everyone. Trying to contact Ray after we left the lot was difficult as you would presume and he began using lackluster excuses on why he could not fix the vehicle. For instance, he tells me to come in "early" so he can take the vehicle, the place opens at 8 am and at 10 am he says it's too late in the day for him to look at it. By the way, it was open until 6PM. After spending a few days in and out of this disappointing establishment, I grew disgruntled as would anyone dealing with this. He tried to change out the sensors to the vehicle, and it broke again the next day. I called and spoke to his daughter and she would tell me Ray wasn't available, they knew who I was at this point. Obviously trying to avoid me, I spoke to her and said this was unsatisfactory, and we'd been trying for days to fix the problem. She told me to come in early Monday and we'd fix it.
First off, I hope someone reads this and realizes this is a very honest and disappointing review for what was supposed to be a good buying experience.
It starts with the day I bought my car, I had Ray pop the hood and I just wanted to listen to the engine run a little bit. When he started it up, I immediately realized there was a funny noise. I am no mechanic, but I've heard several engines run and this did not sound normal. I immediately thought it was a belt issue and Ray tried to tell me that's the sound the engine made. After going back and forth with him saying I would not buy the vehicle unless it was looked at, he brushed me off saying he did not have time to fix the vehicle and I quote him, "I don't want to fix this vehicle unless you buy it. It's a waste of my time." To translate what he said, he would not fix the car unless I paid for it first. Let me remind you folks that this is a SOLD - AS IS lot with no warranties on the vehicle. Knowing this, I wanted to get stuff in writing and he refused by saying it's a SOLD - AS IS car lot but that we should trust him. I tried to argue with Ray telling him, if he did not fix this vehicle for us, did he plan on selling it broken to someone else? By the way, I had cash to pay this car off and it was not being financed at all. After feeling like a total pain in his rear and spending hours at this car lot waiting, he fixed the belt.
Terrible rental experience. Do not use the after hours drop off or they will add 5 days to your rental. Parked rental truck in the parking lot with 3 other Penske trucks on Saturday night. Come to find out, they did not check the truck in until that Friday! Owner and Penske we're next to useless when attempting to resolve this. When asked to review the security cameras, they said it would be too much work. Will never do business with Penske again and definitely would never think of going to Ray for anything automotive related.
Here's the good part ladies and gentleman, Ray calls me later on to tell me he regrets spending 100 dollars on a sensor and trying to fix my vehicle which i just spent $8400 on. He was clearly upset that I spoke to his daughter, who works at the lot and was the employee to pick up the phone, and he told me for all he cares I could write 10 BAD REVIEWS on his lot! I was shocked that he told me not to come back to his car lot. I am a professional and polite customer and did not deserve this treatment.
Went to purchase a car cash. The car I was interested in has a funny noise in the engine. As we were very interested in it we asked for issue to be repaired. Ray said he needed me to buy it first in order for him to fix it. Keep in mind he sells cars as is. I was not buying a vehicle with problems. I have small children and need a reliable, safe car. Had I not insisted he would have sold it to me or anyone else knowing there was an issue. After hours of waiting he agreed to fix it. The noise was gone and the car seemed to be working well. I purchased it and 10 minutes after driving it off the lot.. the "service tire monitor system" warning came on. Go figure. While closing the deal I was told by staff that although the car was sold as is, they would fix any issue with the car. To quote the employee, "we won't do you like that." I thought I had made a good choice and was dealing with good people. When the warning came on Ray said to bring it back the following day. We spent hours at their shop waiting only to be told that autozone kept delivering the wrong part... talk about giving us the run around. We left that day without a solution. We were told we would be called when the part was ready. No such call came. Instead, when we would call for a status, the staff became increasingly upset until Ray called, audibly irritated about our inquiries. They had is come in after the weekend and we were told the issue was fixed. Sure enough.. the next day the light came on again. I'm a school teacher and was back at work at this point so I brought the car after work. I was sent off, told it was too late and I need to bring it earlier. On Saturday I got my two kids dressed and we were on our way to bring the car at 10 am at which point Ray said it was too late and to take the car elsewhere because he wasn't fixing it. When we called to express how distraught we were about the unprofessionalism and what we felt was a scam as we were told any issue with the car would be fixed just to get us to take it off the lot.. the lady on the other end was apologetic and wanted to fix the situation so she scheduled us an appointment to bring the car. Later that night, Ray personally called me, my husband, and my mother who has done business with him for 20 years that we better not bring that car to him and he didn't want to hear from us.
